Chances of seeing these cars today may be more probable than we think, only they will have lost their Great RI markings, will be of a different form and will carry Made in China markings. With steel prices what they have been in the past year, our junk is their treasure, only to be returned at least partially to the good old USA!

I recalled that post, and thought that I might have even made a copy of it. So I dug through my Rock Island stuff and actually found it! The post was made by a gentleman named Jim Langan. Don't know if he still posts on this site or not. At the time of that post (April 2002) he stated that "there are a number of old Rock Island and Milwaukee Road box cars on an unused siding in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan along highway M28." He thought that at least one of the approximately 300 box cars on the long string bore the old "100 YEARS OF PROGRESS" Rock Island herald. He was going to be making another trip up there later that spring and promised some photos, but no other post was ever made on the subject, at least to my knowledge. I guess the chances of those cars still being there some 5 years later are pretty remote. Any RITS members live up in the area that could check it out?

If memory serves me correct there was a post maybe 4 or 5 years ago with a few rumored to be on a siding somewhere in northern Michigan or on the UP (upper peninsula) there. Not sure if that was true or not as never saw proof and never could persuade the wife to vacation there.
