I don't recall them having steam generators but I remember of pair of 
them wheeling the Ringling Brothers train though Spirit Lake in the late 
60s. I suspect those trains did and still do have their own power plants 
for hotel services.  And the FAs were, at least at one time, able to 
make passenger train speeds since I saw another pair of them west bound 
out of Iowa City with a hot pig train in 1962 or 63.

Probably the FA was pitch hitting for a ailing E unit.
