The Denver & New Orleans went bankrupt and was succeeded by the Denver,
Texas & Gulf Railroad on 18 Mar 1886. The Chicago, Rock Island &
Colorado Railway Co. was organized in Jan 1888 to build from the
Kansas-Colorado state line to Colorado Springs. But before building it
was merged into the Chicago, Kansas & Nebraska Railway Co. which began
building the line to Colorado Springs, which it reached 14 Oct 1888.
There was no crossing at Calhan. The CKN crossed the DTG at Falcon
CO. I talked with a Colorado historian who can't recall a wreck at
Falcon involving another railroad.
