Bob,

Finding the EXACT consist is very unlikely (almost impossible).

There is, however, a lot of information on the Peoria Rocket in
Greg Stout's book "Route of the Rockets". It includes many photos of the
train, taken during various periods of its history.

By 1969, the train was not what it used to be. The trains were
usually powered by either one or two E-units. A photo from 7/11/65 shows
E8 653 trailed by another E8A (elephant-style). Another from 6/63 shows
E8 651 doing the job by herself. A photo from 11/66 shows 652 also
working solo. In some cases, a pair of RS-3's were used, as shown in a
11/27/65 photo. DL-109's were also used occasionally.

By the late 1960's, the train "frequently lugged one or more
piggyback cars in an effort to supplement its declining passenger
revenues." The photo from 7/11/65 shows a signel piggyback car w/2
trailers, followed by a UP express box, a RI express box, and two baggage
cars. The rest of the train is not visible.

Here's the consist for Train 11 the Peoria Rocket at Peoria, IL,
10/29/61: E8 654, baggage 4372, lounge 402 Cherokee Strip, articulated
with coach 302 Sunflower State, coach 354 Chicago, coach 356 Tucumcari,
dorm-obs 476 Phantom Valley.

	But note that after 1963, #11 & 14 became coach-only, and often
had one of the 2700-series suburban "cattle cars".

So, on to modeling: I'm no N-scale expert, but here's what I'd
look for:
* A locomotive from the list above.  I believe E8's, RS-3's, and DL-109's
are all available in N, so take your pick.
* A piggyback flat from the late 1960's.
* A streamlined baggage car w/ fluted sides.
* A "Harriman" baggage car, painted silver. (MDC/Roundhouse?)
* A couple of streamlined coaches w/ fluted sides.

Good luck!

Regards,

-Jeff
