Actually, looking at the Second Diesel Spotters Guide, the difference is a
little harder to see, as both had the step.

The cast frames seem to have a narrower curved piece fairing between the
stepwell and the truck area, whereas the welded had a wider curved piece.

528 seems to have the wider piece.
