Keevan -

Note that this trend is not just for brass locos, but many plastic loco makers (BLI, Athearn, etc.) are going to it as well for diesels as well as steamers.

So it's not just the "high end" buyers that will be affected - it will be all of us!

I can see that it is good for the makers, but what if you are a new RI fan trying to get a fleet -- the pickings might be very few (even on e-Bay) if this mode (made to order) becomes universal, as it appears to be doing.

As I said, I'm glad I have the models I do, because I don't see them in the market place (everyone "sold out") - and this will get even worse with this policy applied to plastic models, IMHO.

Do you think this trend is good for the hobby ???

Seems like if you don't pre-order, you probably won't get it - what does that mode do to new hobbyists ???

  George,

I'm of the opinion that it is good for the hobby in that the importer/manufacturer doesn't have to gamble what the sales will be and therefor can keep the price lower than otherwise.

As to an impact on new hobbyists? Not much, as this would be considered a high end item that they probably wouldn't be interested in through the early phase of their interest.

  Keevan
