[RITSlist] Precision Scale announcements

No the manufacturers haven't gone to taking reservation on the plastic
products YET, BUT they have gone to the "limited run" gamut which causes a
feeding frenzy when the items are released. If one happens to not hear about
the release soon enough or have the funds available at that time then you
miss out. Unfortunately the manufacturers DON'T do a re-release of that item
once they have sold out of that production run leaving the "outsiders"
permanently left out in the cold or perusing E-Bay. And also, if the shop
you normally deal thru doesn't order any of the item before stock runs out,
you still get stuck. This has been a sore spot with me for quite some time.
It seems that they all decide to run our favorite railroad at the same time
on limited runs and I'm sorry guys, but I DO have bills to pay and railroads
come when I have spare change to use.
Then you also have the problem of some guys buying up extras to re-sell on
E-Bay at a later date. That's called hoarding and it does hurt the hobby.
Off my soapbox for now.

$1400 seems reasonable for a high-quality loco of that wheel arrangement
these days. 8^( Obviously, I long for the ³good old days² where a brass
caboose was about $100.00, and a GOOD 2-8-2 was about $500-$700; and those
days weren¹t so long ago.

Brass has almost always been done this way, i.e., based on reservations.
With some locos being limited to less than 100 copies (a Hallmark Texas
Special I once owned was one of only 75), the money adds up quickly if not
enough people sign up. Just a fact of life.

As for plastic going that way, I haven¹t seen any evidence of that at all.
Athearn Genesis, Broadway Limited, Precision Craft, etc., have yet to
mention reservations being necessary. If this changes, It would bode ill,
indeed.
