As the responses thus far have shown, the preferences for the Rocket are as
diverse as the RITS membership.

My particular interest is RI history -- particularly operational details and
decisions, both passenger and freight, for any time period after 1900. From a
regional perspective, the Arkansas Division holds primary interest, followed
by the expanded Southern division. I model the RI - intermittently - but more
to recreate a particular locomotive, car or train than to operate a layout,
so I would have to say that historical articles are of greater interest to me
than strictly modeling articles. Of course, there is so much overlap between a
historical article with some hints for modelers versus a modeling article
with some historical background, that most RI fans can find something of interest
in every article.

I would be interested in seeing how the new Rocket editor -and the RITS
membership represented on this list- views the relationship between the Rocket and
the Digest. Thus far, the Rocket seems to have focused on shorter, more photo
oriented articles. The Digest, on the other hand, frequently has lengthy
articles, covering a specific topic in great detail, with a much heavier text to
photo ratio. I do not see the lengthy historical articles of the Digest
easily lending themselves to Rocket format, and if the Digest is not available as a
publication venue, these articles are going to get dispersed and published in
a variety of other publications, rather than being collected in a series of
convenient volumes for RITS members. On the other hand, the Rocket type of
shorter articles lend themselves to a more regular publication schedule because
they can be researched and completed in a much shorter time frame.

There is a place for both publications. To my knowledge, neither the board
nor the publications committee has formally affirmed any formal position
regarding the two publications, or explained their intent for the two publications
to coexist.
