David,

The Twin Star article was very good. It would have been even better if it
could have been published in a venue where it was possible to include all 5
parts in one issue, so it was readily available for future reference without
juggling 5 different magazines. The Twin Star article was also enhanced by the
superb production qualities of the RTR magazine. Logistically, a long article in
the Digest might require 3 or more Rockets, cover to cover, because each
Rocket is 1/3 or less the page count size of a Digest. I'm not sure that a year's
worth of Rocket issues on a single topic would be acceptable to many members.

RITS may well decide to retire the Digest and go with the Rocket. They will
do so over the strong protest of a number of members who see the Digest as a
quality historical journal. From my own perspective, the end of an independent
Digest will effectively end my authorship of articles for RITS. Concern over
possible or impending loss of the Digest is a significant part of the current
malase affecting the organization.

You mentioned dues reduction -- do you think that is an issue with many
members? The annual membership cost of RITS is comparable to most other historical
societies, and I think most members want quality, not economy, in terms of
what they receive for their dues dollars.

Bill,
I see no reason why articles of greater length could not be used in the
Rocket format. RTR recently did a 5 part article on modeling the Twin Star Rocket.
Why shouldn't the Rocket carry continued articles if the subject matter
warrants an article of such length?
With the Riebe's considering retirement as I hear they are and the associate
editor having been relieved of his duties, perhaps it is time for the Digest
to be retired as well, with all future material being included in the new and
improved Rocket?
This could result in a sizeable cost reduction for RITS, and might even allow
either a reduction in dues OR an increase in the size of the Rocket.
Just my nickels worth
