I bought the Minolta Dimage scan Elite 5400 slide scanner (similar to the one Dan mentioned) a while back. It has 5,400 dpi resolution and makes excellent scans. It is a bit pricy, but if you are going to scan a few hundred slides, it more than pays for itself.

I have used a number of scanners to scan slides and nothing worked well until I purchased the Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV. You can only scan four slides at a time, but the quality is very good. I can make good enlargements of 13 x 19 for frame prints. I do however, save them as a TIFF file for much better quality.

I think (?) the Minolta is no longer made. Maybe someone else can jump in here who knows. What dpi do you scan at Dan?
