The railroad time change was at Phillipsburg, even  though the time zone line was 100 miles west, between Colby and Goodland.  Rocket engine crews changed at both Phillipsburg and Goodland, but the train crews worked all the way between Phillipsburg and Denver.  That's probably why the railroad changed time at Phillipsburg. (A separate Goodland-based crew worked Limon-Colorado Springs, seven days a week.  And all that deadheading time!).

Perhaps, in the early days, the real time zone line was at Phillipsburg.  There hasbeen some tendency for time zones to shift westward over the years.  However, a hundred miles is a long way.

 Second:  Rocky Mountain Rocket and the Time  Zone change:  I had thought it was at Phillipsburg, Kansas, but a map check  this weekend says I am wrong.  Then:  did the crews between  Phillipsburg and Limon carry one watch for each time zone, or what?
