Thanks Keevan,

I know that some lists maybe hard to manage, I also know that some are
not. I would prefer to try it and see as opposed to the it won't work
point of view. This list is monitored, I don't know why another one
couldn't be. And if people can't play nice and be civil, there can be
sanctions for letting the BS fly too much. Hard copies may have
appropriate times and places, but my points about them still stand in
this case I believe. As it is now, none of us have heard the
substance of the a recent action taken over a week ago, except that an
action has been taken. If we utilize technology to our advantage we
could get the message to the troops, avoid speculation, and discord
because of being uninformed.

By doing this via mass email with the information itself, mass email
directing people to a members only list, mass email directing people
to and update on a members only part of a website, or by simply having
a members only section of the RITS website that people could check at
their leisure to keep up on the affairs of the club. In regards to
things shared in the members only areas that would benefit
non-members, I think that there would be very few business affairs
that would benefit non-members. When there would be things others
would benefit, I think it would be easy to discern these items and we
would want to share the news and should do so for the good of the
club.

To illustrate my point I will use the example of the forthcoming
celebration in Trenton, MO. It benefits all to know that a celebration
is coming up and general information about the event and maybe our
involvement if any. I would not matter to anyone outside of the
society who was organizing our involvement, who was participating,
whether we were bringing our traveling display, who was going too man
it and when. Yet a member's only venue would allow for those of us to
communicate and coordinate in a these details, which I am sure many
RITS list visitors don't care about or want to to read through.

I belong to another club that maintains a list of members that can
access members only areas of the website with password. The club also
has the ability to broadcast email all the members with important
announcements, electronic versions of the newsletter, requests for
help with events or projects, updates, etc. It is not that hard to
maintain the lists of members and is very effective. This particular
club does not utilize a list serve, but, generally doesn't need one
because everyone is close to each other, meet in person frequently,
and only a phone call away. However, having a list serve for this
group wouldn't be a far stretch to manage if at all, from what they
already have.

By the way, I look forward to seeing you Sunday night at the local
meeting! I just looked back at the email. You RSVP'd to my original
message in 9 minutes and 25 seconds, it didn't cost you 41 cents, and
you got a local RITS newsletter to boot!

Ahhhh, Planned Progress!!!!!!! :-)

Tom
