Here's some more confusion for you.  There was also Colorado sections for 91 
and 92.  If you read further in Stagner's book he mentions these also.
I would say the 92 out of KC for St. Louis would be a block of cars off of 
92 out of Tucumcari, with any other cars from KC going to St. Louis.  If 
there is a 91 out of St. Louis, it would probably connect at KC with the 91 
out of Chicago for California traffic.
Also remember that a time table number and schedule may not always 
correspond with the symbol of the train running on that schedule.  I have a 
dispatcher's train sheet from the 1970s that show a 55 symbol running on 
57's time table schedule while 57's train was run as an extra that day.
