[RITSlist] What is this?

I grew up just outside Dalhart, Texas.  My house was next to the Rock Island tracks.  There was a....something....that sat on a side track.  My grandmother called it the "ice dock."  It wasn't a building.  It was a metal structure.  There was a blue tower with a cab on top.  A long, steel platform extended from the base of the tower.  There were two concrete pits on either side of it.  The pits were connected by a shallow tunnel.  I used to play on the platform.  Once I gathered up enough courage to climb the ladder to the cab.  The door was locked.  It was dismantled in the early 1960's.  
   
  What was this?  Does anyone have a picture of one?
