Before the Harahan bridge was constructed, the Rock Island accessed Memphis 
via a ferry from Hopefield, AR.  The Harahan bridge was constructed by the 
Arkansas & Memphis Railway Bridge & Terminal Company; the terminal company being 
owned jointly by Missouri Pacific, Cotton Belt and Rock Island.
