  Thanks for the photos.  Jeff Aley has already told you about the steam locomotive.  This is one of the last two Northwestern Steel & Wire (ex-GTW) 0-8-0's that IRM had on a siding at Galt, Illinois since the 1980's.  The other one there for all these years was # 8305 and I am not sure just where it finally went to.  
   
  As for Rock Island boxcar # 24821, perhaps someone on the RITS LIST can advise as to builder, built date, etc.
