Rick,Pete,Jim,Netmembers,
Your previous assertions appear to be correct. The scene in question is, apparently, at 39th St., looking to the South, with the Stockyards "El" and C.J.Ry. bridges in the rear. Hidden from view, behind the TA, is the site of where the NYCRR would install their car washer for the Root St. Coach Yard, ca. 1947-50. Root St. Interlocking was expanded in 1950 to interlock three new r-h crossovers, 39th.St. to 37th.St. with a connection to an extended track serving the car washer. The train appears to be headed into the city on Track Three. The photo at the bottom of the page is even more puzzling. I believe that it could be at 44th.St., looking North. The train is on Track 4, with Tracks 5 and 6 in the foreground. At the extreme left appear to be Root St. Interlocking's northbound home signals for tracks 2 and 3.

That overhead "L" structure at the rear of the train is/was possibly the Kenwood/Stockyards "L" structure which took off over the mainline somewhere around 35th St. if I recall correctly (I probably don't), or it couldbe the Englewood "L" (probably not) around 59th St., so that photo could be the morning Westbound Rocket (501) approaching Englewood. Or it could be the afternoon Peoria Rocket, no. 503.
those lineside buildings are long gone and I don't remember the ...Balke Challenger Co. advewrtising billiard tables alongside. Jim Neubauer
