[RITSlist] Looks Familiar ??

I think it was called the "diesel ramp"...Last time I was there was about January 1960 during my first weeks in the training program.? 



Talk about air pollution.? All of the engines were running and you could barely see across the room.? My eyes burned and watered for a week after spending a couple of days there.? Guess the ventilation at that time probably wouldn't meet today's EPA or OSHA standards.? 



The ramp foreman's name was Hank Hurt and the MM at that time was J.H. Whipple.



A few years ago TRAINS carried a two page spread of this facility taken from overhead.? The captioner speculated that a tall thin white shirted gentlemen standing on the ramp was "probably a Rock Island Official.? I commented to the list that the man looked like J.R.(Russ) Osmun...then Supt. of Motive Power.? Russ' nephew Jeff Osmun was a member of the list at that time..still may be...also opined that it sure looked like his "uncle Russ".
