Historical Society and the DeGolyer Library at SMU.
The presentation will feature a large collection of 35mm color slides
taken of the Rock Island from the time period 1970-1980. Of historical
note, this was the final decade that the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific
Railroad existed. Locations to be featured include Fort Worth, Dallas,
Houston, Waurika, El Reno, Oklahoma City, Little Rock and Amarillo just
to name a few. This will be a "first showing", as none of these images
were featured in his "Down South on the Rock Island" book.
Steve Allen Goen is a recognized railroad author and historian. He has
published a well known series of books featuring the railroads of the
Great Southwest. Autographed copies of all eight of Steve's books will
be available for sale the night of the program.
In addition - Enjoy a Rock Island exhibition of images of small town
life at the turn of the century from the Jules Bourquin Collection and
other DeGolyer collections of ephemera, maps, and books.
This exhibition is open to the public through September 25, 2007.
