[RITSlist] 200 series coaches

Dave,

This is not the later Passenger Car Library series which do, in fact, deal with the as built configuration.  This is the earlier list type book with all the lots of cars and DOES include some/all changes over time and the final disposition.  I need to check a bit further on the changes to 202 Kansas City.

  IIRC, David Randall told me some years ago that all his books cover the subject cars only when they are new, that he makes no attempt to cover changes in interiors, etc., once the cars have been in service.  Other examples include the two Budd RPO-coaches that became lounge-dorms on 7 and 8; conversion of a couple Budd coaches to (partial) dorms, etc.  Under his criteria, these changes to 202 would be beyond the scope of his projects.

    Thanks for the information on the RI's 200 series coaches.  While Randall's information is usually very accurate, in this case it doesn't match the RI diagrams when it comes to coach 202.  

    It appears that coach 202 was first converted to a coach-parlor car in 1945, then ca. 1947 was converted into a diner-parlor, then converted back to a full coach in the late 1950s.

    These 200 series cars did not originally have tightlock couplers and electric brakes.  Those were added beginning in 1943 to make the cars compatible with Rocket trains, and it seems likely that the cars were painted Rocket colors (silver) at that time.
