To the List,
I don't think the term "Dark Red" vrs "Maroon" is actually important to Intermountian. To me, "Maroon" is much more a generic term for the RI color anyway, but it's fairly common for use by the model maker's in their decription's of the color's they use for their RI model's. Atlas, Walther's/P2K and Athearn all have their version of this "shade".
What I think they want is a recomended "shade" or "color" that will work on a model in normal indoor light. The above 3 mfgs have all received praise and/or criticism for the color they used (P2K was too "red", Athearn's was said to be too "dark"). I have found them all to be reasonable for models, and loco's I have painted recently are more like the P2K color. But since I usually weather my models to some degree when I get them completed, the "shade" of color difference's generally disappear. But that's just me, I guess.
Phil, I recall that you assisted P2K in their search for a "Dark Red" for their U28B, which led to a lively discussion of the color they used here on the list. I also recall that you used this actual RI "Dark Red" color for a model to demonstrate a new paint scheme for the railroad when you worked for them. Do you feel that this color would be correct for use on a model? Or would it look too dark for a model seen in interior light?
I mean no critique to anyone, but would like to hear any recomendation's from people here on a model color that would satisfy the modeler's here.

Had a red thumbnail for a week. Always found Testors #4 to be a close match to this color chip, but Ross says it doesn't 'scale' down for HO models in the basement.
