According to Colorado Rail Annual No. 17, Rocketing To The Rockies, by
Michael C. Doty and E.M. "Mel" McFarland, page 12, "A trackage
agreement with the D&RG on February 15, 1988 secured use of the Rio
Grande's freight yards in Denver and Pueblo. Passenger Service at the
Denver and Pueblo union depots was included through the agreement with
the D&RG. The Rio Grande would service Rock Island engines at its
Burnham Shops in Denver and provide a freight office space in Pueblo.
The Rock Island, in turn, would service D&RG engines and equipment at
Roswell. ... The UP was granted limited use of the CRI&P facilities
and yards when the UP granted the Rock Island use of its line into
Denver in April 1889. The CRI&P at that time stopped running trains
between Colorado Springs and Denver over the D&RG on a regular basis."
