The Rock Island had two locomotives with red boilers, the 4047, an oil burner for use west of Kansas City. and the 4055, a coal burner, for west of Chicago.  Much earlier, at the time of the Century of Progress World's Fair in 1933, they also had a 5000-series Northern with a red boiler.  Remember The Rock magazine ran an article on them a while back.
