Well at the risk of opening up too much, I am a customer of a certain Chicago cultural institution that has received generous backing from two families with nefarious connections to the final years of the Rock Island - the Crowns and the Heinemans.
And unless they have been commuting on the Rock for the past 30 years, the rest of the patrons have no clue about what happened to the railroad or its employees.

indsutry I too have similar feelings with the Henry Crown Space center
or whatevr it's called. It was very hard for me going into it knowing
that money that went into this place came off the backs of RI
railroaders. Steve Suhs

Yessir. That's how I undersood it. Appeasement.
The Colonel did get his money though. Didn't he? I have trouble going
to the Crown-named MSI space wing to this day. I know where he got
quite a bit of the $$$ for that. My boys are into space, so...
Phil W did just fine adapting the MSC colors to locomotives and
rolling stock.

Rock Island adopted red and yellow, the colors of Material Service
Company owned by Col. Henry Crown, who sat on the Rock Island's Board
of Directors. The colors were adopted by the Rock Island as a
gesture of appeasement to Crown, who wanted more than anything to get
the railroad abandoned to get his money out by scrapping the
railroad. This was not to be, of course. Joe Howard and Ted Zirbes,
Advertising Manager and Special Representative respectively, told me
the new The Rock wanted to move the railroad as far away as possible
from the Crown red and yellow, so the new Black & Blue and White
scheme was developed, along with the named diesel units. Crown
wasn't one of them. Jim NeubauerNOTE: This message was trained as
