RI 323 Chisholm Trail was not a sleeper; it was the single coach that was reincarnated, so to speak,  after the wreck of the 2-unit articulated set earlier  

The hwt streamstyled sleeper Cedar Rapids did a stint on #9 and #6, Des Moines (8:15PM, Newton 9:05PM) years after it was part of the original ZR equipment sets.

  I watched the train pretty much every day for several years in the fifties.  It was generally an alternating RI Eunit, almost never an E-8, and just about any CB&Q 9900 E unit on the alternate days.  Usually two Q storage mail-express cars and always a CRI&P RPO, at least north of Burlington every day.  During the Christmas season, two RI heavyweights would be used.  Once loads beyond two coaches were required, CB&Q would add one heavyweight chair car, always between the two RI heavyweights.  RI often used a sleeper as the second car, Chisolm Trail was very common.
