While researching information on passenger trains in
Des Moines for my future Rock Island layout, I found
out that they had a Union Station served by Chicago
Great Western, Burlington Route, Milwaukee Road, and
the Wabash. This surprised me because I thought the
Rock Island station was the only major station in
town.
I did a little searching on the internet and came
across a postcard shot of the station and it looks
fairly impressive. However, I cannot find anything
else about it.
Does anyone know any information about the station,
such as when it was built, when it was demolished, who
it was designed by, and how many platforms there were?
I would also be interested to find out if the Rock
Island had any intentions in participating in the
Union Station. Thanks for any help you could provide!
Regards,
Eric Miller
