Another manufacturer not yet mentioned in this thread
was Globe--predecessor of Athearn.  They made a metal
kit in (I think) the early 50s.

I see these cars on eBay frequently.  RITS data sheet
F-001 gives the info on these cars built as WWII was
nearing an end.  A lot of people in the aircraft
industry needed a place to utilize their skill and
knowledge in building things of aluminum.  I believe
the type of aluminum used was 6061-T6. a type that
became widely available in general industry.  That was
a time when the thought was popular that light weight
railroad equipment would reduce equipment costs.
