LLOYD E. STAGNER

NEWTON, KS-

Lloyd E. Stagner, 84, died Jan. 18th, 2008, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

He was born March 2, 1923, in Newkirk, OK, the son of Lloyd and Delia Thompson Stagner Sr.  A resident of Newton, he was a retired Santa Fe Railway station agent and author.

He belonged to Trinity Height United Methodist Church, National Railway Historical Society, Railway and Locomotive Historical Society, and the Santa Fe Railway Historical and Modeling Society.  He served in the U.S. military during World War II.

On Oct. 12, 1972, he married Marilyn Davis in Topeka.  She survives.

Other survivors include:  two sons, Matthew, Oak Park, IL, and Murray, Grapevine, TX; a daughter, Marla Jane Summer, South Paris, MA; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Giles E. Stagner.

Funeral will be at 2 PM Tuesday at Petersen Funeral Home Chapel, Newton, with the Rev. Phil Fischer presiding.  Visitation will be from 1 to 9 PM Monday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in McPherson City Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Trinity Heights Methodist Church or the Great Plains Transportation Museum, both in care of the funeral home.

Lloyd was a great gentleman and most knowledgeable of the various steam and diesel motive power used on several railroads of the Great Plains area including the Rock Island of which most RI fans are aware of through his various publications.  His contributions to society and railfans in general will be missed, but will live on in history through his publications.  Our sympathy and prayers are extended to his family during their sorrow.
