Hello, Rich and All -
There is a b&w photo of RI 839 - WF&S SW8 #801 - on page 103 of Lou Marre's Rock Island Diesel Locomotives book  The caption says it was painted red and black, but my understanding was that it was orange and black.  Check out the color shot of RI 840 on page 27 of Vol. 4, No. 2 of REMEMBER THE ROCK magazine.  Sorta' your choice of what shade of orange to use, but I'd bet a PFE reefer orange would be close.
