[RITSlist] Herington facilities

John, thanks for the recent photos of the Herington, KS area. I've been
following that of what has been recently posted on Trainorders.com, some of
what Bob Yarger recently posted here on RITS. Is quite a good bit of
historical shots from years past as well as more recent there.

John, in your rrpicture archive on page 3, your first picture of the
concrete building, you question whether this was the scale house building.
What I recall, I think it was the standard wood structure similar to what
used to be used in North Yard in Wichita. This concrete building with the
sign I want to think was part of the operation dealing with the concrete
coaling tower that was demolished there by the SP. I presume this building
had a reason for staying or simply, was not affecting the trackage
operation. The sign makes me believe this was the firm from Chicago that
engineered and built the coaling tower originally. As for the SSW caboose
on page 1, I wonder how long it will be before someone thinks they have to
throw rocks at the wondows and the marker lamp on top? Seems like in the
past vandels always had to attack the glass on a park loco as such,
including the headlight reflector and probably nowadays, also tag with their
paint cans. Thanks again for your posting.
Carl
