Per George W. Hilton & John F. Due's The Electric Interurban Railways In
America, page 345 the portion from Galesburg IL to Monmouth IL was built
as a DC line named the Western Illinois Traction and before completion
was reorganized as the Rock Island Southern Railway Company. As the
Rock Island Southern Railway (no Company) it built an AC line from
Monmouth to Rock Island IL. The principal connection with the Chicago,
Rock Island & Pacific was that it leased RI lines between Rock Island
and Southern Junction and Milan IL to Sherrard IL. In 1919 the DC
portion was reorganized as the Galesburg and Western. The DC portion
ceased operations 30 Mar 1951 and the AC portion (converted to steam)
ceased operations during Feb 1952.
