Hello,

I see over the last couple of days there have been some questions
regarding the arrival of the next issue of "The Rocket" magazine.
Rightfully so as it does seem like a long time since we've seen a new
issue doesn't it?

RITS has been rather busy over the last 60 days making some
significant changes that in the end we believe will better serve the
members. In short "The Digest" has been merged with "The Rocket"
magazine making "The Rocket" the official publication of the Rock
Island Technical Society. Former editor of "The Digest," Bill Riebe,
has agreed to come on board as Co-Editor of "The Rocket." We've also
arranged the publication schedule so that the "Rock Newsletter" will
be mailed with every quarterly issue of "The Rocket." This will save
RITS money and at the same time give members an improved quality and
timely magazine.

Fans of "The Digest" will be happy to know that we will have the same
extremely well researched articles that you've come to expect out of
"The Digest" in "The Rocket." Bill and I both agree that's exactly
what the official publication of RITS should reflect. We're also
looking down the road at using "The Digest" format as a special issue
publication that would allow us to go more in depth on a single
subject. A good example of this is the recent Milwaukee Road
Historical Association's special issue on Chicago that White River
Productions produced.

As with any changes we've had to take some time out of the
publications schedule as Bill Riebe and I have coordinated our
efforts, but fear not "The Rocket" is currently under production and
should be heading to the printer shortly. We're also hard at work on
the RITS 2009 calendar. Even with all these changes "The Rocket"
magazine will be out in the April-June quarter as it is scheduled to
be in. The 2009 calendar and the third quarter "Rocket" will be out
prior to the convention as they are scheduled to be as well.

As Steve Suhs pointed out though, Bill Riebe and I can't do this on
our own. We're always looking for more material for these
publications. If you have anything you want to share please contact
Bill or I. After all, this is your magazine. Incidentally Lamoyne
Westerbeck, whom voiced some concerns about submitting materials
earlier, called me today and we ironed out what turned out to be a
communication problem during the Digest/Rocket merger and you'll be
seeing his story(s) in print in an upcoming issue.

As for me I've got to get back to work on "The Rocket." Steve Suhs
wrote a great story on SW1500s, Bill Riebe has a in-depth look at ice-
bunker refrigerator cars, well know Trains Magazine contributor Steve
Smedley has a story about a day on the Bureau turn with E-units, and
Bob Massey rounds things out with two reviews on new Rock Island
model kits. I think it's are best issue yet!

Don't hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions or
concerns. We're always looking for feedback on how to make this great
magazine better.

Sincerely,

Andrew McBride
Co-Editor
The Rocket Magazine
