Some RITS members pose with Rock Island 652, in town for Topeka Railroad Days
during the RITS annual meeting on September 1st - 3rd, 1995. The locomotive was
built by EMD (Electro Motive Division - General Motors) in 1953 and is now a
part of the restored collection of the Midland Railway Museum in Baldwin City,
Kansas. Photo by Steve Hile.
This Rock Island caboose has new owners, Mr. and Mrs David Pitz bought the house
at 330 North 8th Avenue East, Newton, Iowa, 50208 on July 1st, 1995. The
caboose was part of the reason for purchasing the house. David would like
technical advice for the proper restoration of the exterior. The caboose was
originally built as a class B-2 Boxcar in 1914. In 1943, the Silvis shops
converted the boxcar into the caboose pictured here. The caboose now sits only
yards from the former Rock Island mainline and just one block from the restored
Newton depot. Photo: Tom Pawlak.
